Mario Party 7 - Game Cube

8 October 2006 02:28

I have followed the evolution of Mario Party since its early beginnings, so without any bias I can honestly say this edition is by far the most amusing and challenging.

I began my adventure with Daisy, my favourite heroine, in order to defeat the many islands of pleasure I sailed to on my cruise ship vacation I was so graciously awarded by Toadsworth. Along the way, I was challenged by Yoshi, Waluigi and Mario, but to no avail…I defeat them all.

Mario Party 7 features an abundance of mini-games as well as intricate maps to follow. Each map contains an overall theme or goal that you must accomplish in order to visit another island along the way. In one instance, you will have to collect 100 coins before your opponents do. In another level, you will have to collect a total of 3 power stars before anyone else does.

All of your favourite characters are back in this one, along with some brand new friends, like Birdo and Dry Bones!

One very special element to the game manifests itself in cruise mileage points. The more mileage you cover on the cruise ship, the more points you get. These points allow you to unlock anything from secret mini-games, secret characters, secret modes of play, even costume changes!

And for those who are wondering, there is a microphone that comes with this game allowing you to put in vocal commands when there are guessing mini-games to play.

You will have tons of fun when people come over. This game keeps everyone in the mood. It's even got special guest appearances by Bowser and Donkey Kong!

The game play is quite unique. In a world of 3D gaming, Mario Party 7 draws its fun factor from a 2D landscape designed to help in deceiving and manipulating your opponents. You are rewarded with stars and coins as well as gifts like magnificent orbs that land your opponents in major trouble.

The graphics are cute and cuddly, just like a game of this genre should be.

The sounds and music are in the style of super Mario with a different theme to each island, such as an Egyptian them for the pyramids and a futuristic theme for the downtown core.

I have no complaints regarding this game. I can't wait to play it with a bigger group. I find myself hungry for coins and stars whenever I play.

Buying this game is a great investment, especially if you enjoy entertaining people who enjoy competitive video gaming.

Game play: 9.0
Graphics: 9.0
Sound: 9.0
Longevity: 9.5

The Good: So many characters, and they all have different strengths. Stay away from climbing vines when playing with Daisy…her dress weighs her down!

The Bad: I think this game needs more Microphone mini-games.
