The FrontX Multimedia Ports
Introduction
This is a
first for me. Testing a product that requires, er, no actual tests per se.
Not being of the performance genre, the FrontX Multimedia Ports are of a new
crop of products I prefer to call "convenience" products. You know,
those add-ons (bells, whistles, etc.) that can make your life simpler.
I regularly
crawl in and out from under the table where my computer resides. Constantly
reconfiguring for different sound cards, processor chips and anything I can
get into, my pants and head can get pretty messy and banged up. Since I review
an unusual amount of audio devices (usually speakers), the FrontX Ports immediately
struck me as one of those, "Why didn't we think of this sooner?"
type of products. My thanks goes out to HighSpeedPC
for providing the review sample.

Description
& Specifications
By default,
the Ports come with four of eight slots filled. Moving from the lower rear
of most computers, the gaming, audio input, microphone input and speaker (line-out,
earphone) ports appear in a front panel 5.25" slot after installation.
The remaining
slots can be filled with such extensions as USB, serial and parallel ports.
As the slots themselves merely slide up and out, no tools are required to
modify your FrontX configuration. Of course, remember to bring a screwdriver
along to mount/dismount the 5.25" panel.
The pictures
and directions are so self explanatory that additional detail isn't required.
Installation is extraordinarily simple and straightforward. I just have one
gripe and it's based in marketing terminology. See the section labeled In
Use Impressions for details.![](/graphics/next.gif)
