Samsung's
ML-4600 and ML-4500 printers
Could the ML-4600 and
its little brother be laser high quality printers at an affordable price?
Well thats what Samsung is saying about these devices; but can they
really stand up to that statement? Or will they crumble under such pressure?
It looks like were going to have to find out for ourselves throughout
this article.
Before skipping to the
features and specifications, I would just like to advise the readers that
this review is only based on the ML-4600 due to the fact that the only difference
between both printers is the memory capacity (4MB for the ML-4600 and 2MB
for the ML-4500), the DPI class (1200 for the ML-4600 and 600 for the ML-4500)
and the prize ($159 USD or $232 USD).

The Features and Specs:
Whats so Special
?
The ML-4600
is a relatively small laser printer. It also has the capability to print up
to 8 PPM. This is not the fastest printer in the world, but 8 PPM is still
acceptable. I would also like to say that this unite belongs to the 1200 DPI
class and that it comes with a toner cartridge (which costs $59 USD went bought
separately).
As I mentioned
before, this printer features a 4MB memory that can be upgrade to a maximum
of 68MB with the help of a standard 72pin SIMM expansion slot. In addition
to that, it possesses a 66 MHz RISC processor.
This printer
can be connected through a parallel port or thought a very convenient USB
port. This feature is just a great up for this device because this can prevent
some good old fashion problems. All you have to do is to connect the printer
to your USB port, install the USB drivers, and, as they say, that is that.
Another great thing about the ML-4600 is that it is fully compatible with
all operating systems. From Windows to Mac OS, passing by Linux, this printer
takes them all. In fact, I didnt even have any problem installing in
through a parallel port on
Windows XP (but I sure did have some issues with my modem and my sound card).
