Enhanced Leadtek WinFast
GeForce2 GTS 64 MB
After I posted the review of
the Matrox Millennium
G450 I was flooded with e-mail from people wanting to know if there was
a card out there that offered similar features with more performance. I think
it goes without saying that buying the latest available card can cause your
checkbook to balk. Luckily, nVidia has released the GeForce 2 Pro and GeForce
2 Ultra in recent months making the GeForce 2 GTS and its technology more
attractive. Leadtek sent a review unit of their enhanced 64 MB GTS for review.

A couple of things stand out
immediately when you take a look at the Winfast GeForce2 GTS. Leadtek is very
proud of the 5.5 ns memory on the unit as they have slapped a sticker on the
outside proclaiming it as one of its features. The Absolute Multimedia GeForce2
GTS I reviewed some time back only came with 6 ns memory. The biggest difference
between these two cards is that the Absolute unit only features 32 MB of memory
while the Leadtek unit comes packed with 64 MB of memory. I can't think of
an application that is so memory intensive to make the extra memory necesary,
but it sure is nice to have it in case future software can take advantage
of it.
Inside the box resides the card
and a few other goodies. The most obvious is the S-video and RCA dongle cables.
Yup, Leadtek has thrown in a second display capapbility on this card. Care
to watch some DVD movies on your TV? No problem. One
thing that I had never really worried about before but that came in very handy
was the included Colorific software. With it you can adjust the color balance
of your monitor. With the CD is packaged a small light blue card that you
can use to adjust the monitor's color settings.. Turns out that I was a little
on the green side of the spectrum. Once adjusted I noticed that skin tones
in graphics and DVD movies looked much more realistic and true to life. On
the CD with the drivers is also the Winfast DVD software. I'm quite impressed
with the quality of DVD software that manufacturers are starting to package
with their units.
